2. Who owns IP

PMA student PMs owns 100% of the IP during the 11 weeks of the program. Once you pass the 11 weeks, if you still use our engineering resources and seek advice from us, we will take between 3-10% of the equity. I stay on as an advisor. The percentage varies based on how much engineering resources you consume post 11 weeks and how much involvement you need me and my team as an advisor. Starting the second cohort, our engineers are hired as "interns" at our company. So all the work they conduct belong to the company.

3. What is the team structure?

Teams will consist of developers, data scientists, and product managers from my PM Accelerator program. Product managers will handle the business case, voice of customer interviews, and market research. Not all teams need a data scientist or designer. So they are optional.

In our last cohort, the team size is between 5-10 people. If you want to build a large-scope project, you will have a bigger team.

We suggest having multiple product managers and multiple developers on the same project. So that you will have a bigger scope of the project and have a successful launch.

4.  What does the timeline look like?

5. How will the team matching process work?

5.1 Group team match

Team matching will involve filling out forms to understand each member's background and interests, followed by a Zoom call for pitching ideas and forming teams based on mutual interests and skills.

Here is an example of the first cohort’s team match video.

5.2 Early team match

Some PMA students who have product ideas ready, they can start the developer match process early by interviewing developers 1:1. The instructions are in the #PMA-bootcamp-student-only channel.

1. Post your product ideas in #product-ideas channel. You can see some examples from the first cohort in the same channel.

2. Go to pma-student-only channel to get access to developer contact and tech assessment results.

Here is the list of 600 AI engineers who already submitted information about their background [Link in the Discord channel]

Among the 600, 180+ people submitted tech assessment homework. My team is still reviewing their tech assessment. The ones marked as green are good ones. Pink ones are rejected. White ones are not reviewed yet. You can find their assessment results here [Link in the Discord channel]

Here is what you can do. Go to the the 180 people assessment results sheet above. Find the developers you like. Then go to the 600+ sheet and look up his background and tech skills. Especially look up people who can start immediately. Let me know their names. Then you can interview several of them to understand their skill set and commitment and get them started right away. Make sure to find multiple ones. so that you are not hanging on one person

3. Tell @marla_110323/@pmachristine_78379 who you want to interview. She will connect you with the developers through email.

4. You tell developers when you want to interview them and schedule your own interivew.

5. Tell me your interview outcome. Then I will officially assign the developers to your team.

EVEN IF some developers are not selected to join your team, but you think they are suitable for PMA developer pool in general, let @marla_110323/@pmachristine_78379 know. she will mark them as re-direct to other teams. If you think they are SO BAD, they don't have the coding skills, NOBODY in PMA should work with them. Let @marla_110323/@pmachristine_78379 know as well, we will remove them all the developer pool as as whole.

6. What are the project deliverables?

The main deliverable is a real life AI product that demonstrates real user engagement. Successful participants will receive certification from my company, acknowledging their contribution to the AI product.

7. What should we do if we need additional help?

Define the type of help you need, whether it's technical assistance, coaching, or discussing technical challenges. If it's technical challenges, we have weekly office hours done by tech advisors on Wednesdays at 8:30pm EST.

If you need AI PM help, we have weekly AI PM office hours on Sundays at 12pm EST.

8. How will the project scope be determined?

Teams will discuss and finalize the project scope, system architecture, and necessary models based on voice of customer interviews and technical evaluations.

9. Can we commercialize the product we build?

Yes, our team will help you commercialize the project after the 11-week bootcamp if choose to take our resources and advice. We will take ownership of 3-10% of the project. See the IP questions for more details.

10. What if I have an idea but need more time to develop it?

Product managers will help evaluate and develop ideas through voice of customer interviews and market research. Developers can also pitch your idea during the team matching process. It's very likely. The product managers will have many existing ideas to pitch during the team matching process. It's ok you don't have your own idea. You can join other's team who already have a good idea.

Week 3, we will teach you how to use AI hypotheses to validate your ideas. Our tech advisor and AI advisor will provide further help during weekly office hours.

11. What does GTM mean?

GTM stands for Go-to-Market strategy, which involves driving user engagement and business side activities to ensure the product's success in the market. This is the differentiator between your AI product and others. Dr. Nancy Li will use her social channels to drive users for you.

12. Can I invite my friends to join the project as a project manager?

The project management functions will be handled by my current students who are trained in both product and project management. There’s no need for additional participants in this area unless otherwise specified.

13. I am a PMA student, but I don’t have my own AI idea, can I join another team?

Yes. If you don’t have your own idea. You can join other teams. Check out all the ideas in the #project-idea channel

14. How do we handle team size and scope of work?

Team size and scope will be determined based on the complexity of the project. Simple projects may require fewer resources, while more complex ones will need more team members and a larger scope of work.

15. What happens after the bootcamp is over?

If you would like to continue your project after the bootcamp demo day,

Here are several options.

  1. Our current developer's contact only lasted until last Friday which gives you (PMA students) 100% IP of the product they developed. If you want the SAME developers to continue your project, you can discuss with them to give them some equity of the company or have them sign a winter internship contract with my company so that you can still own 100% of your IP. In this case, you must discuss with your developers and get their consent to continue the project with or without equity.
  2. If you can't get an agreement with your current developers, you can use one of our NEW winter and spring interns to continue the projects and continue to get tech advisor support. Given you are using the company resources, our company will take 3-10% of the equity of your company if you decide to run it as a startup. The specific percentage depends on how much support you need from our team. The type of support we provide in exchange for the equity includes, but is not limited to: GTM strategies and execution, developer supply, and tech advisory.

You will get FREE GTM support to launch your product and drive early adoptors. As our company's NORTH STAR metric is the number of highly successful AI products that turn into a real startup. So quality matters a lot to us. Then our startups alumni can hire AI PMs to work for their startup. We will become an AI incubator. == This is the mission of the company. Therefore we will fully support you until you turn into a successful startup.

16.  I just finished my current cohort demo, I have more ideas that I want to work on in the next cohort, how can I join the next cohort?

If this is a brand new idea, you can join the next cohort at 50% discount to work on new AI product ideas. You will get the same access just like other students.

17. Who covers the software engineering cost, such as API integration cost

Product Managers in the same team cover software development costs, such as API costs. In the past cohorts, the total post is under $200 in the bootcamp.

Why doesn’t AI PM Bootcamp cover the cost? Because our company and developers don’t own any equity in the AI product. PMs own 100% of the equity. See details in Question 2. In order to maintain the clean 100% IP ownership, PMs need to cover the API cost. It’s also good to practice your experience in managing P&L of your own AI products.
