During the Program (11 Weeks):

As a PMA student, you retain 100% ownership of your product’s intellectual property during the 11-week program.

After the Program:
If you continue using PMA’s engineering resources or seek ongoing mentorship/advisory support, we reserve the right to take 3–10% equity in your project.

Equity share depends on:

• The amount of engineering resources used post-program

• The level of advisory involvement from Dr. Nancy and the PMA team

Dr. Nancy will remain on as an official advisor if equity is granted.

Note for Cohort 2 and Beyond:
Our engineers are hired as interns at PMA, and any work they produce during the bootcamp belongs to product managers in the same team.
If your product continues beyond the program and relies on their contributions, equity discussions may apply.

🧠 AI PM Bootcamp – IP Ownership & Vesting Guideline

🔸 Total IP Ownership: 100%

Split among 3 co-creators (can adjust based on team structure):

• Team Lead: 40%

• Team Member 1: 30%

• Team Member 2 : 30%

The split can be negotiated by the team before the product starts development. Meanwhile if some members contribute less than others, the split should be changed based on real contribution.

🔒 Vesting Terms (to ensure fairness)

To prevent inactive members from owning IP if they drop off:

• Vesting period: 12 months total

• Cliff: 2 months after bootcamp ends

• Vesting start date: Immediately after bootcamp ends

• Vesting schedule: Monthly vesting after the 2-month cliff (10 equal monthly installments)

• 0% ownership is vested during bootcamp

  🛡️ Add a "Performance-Based Vesting" Clause (Flexible but Fair)

  ✍️ Suggested Clause:

  “Vesting is contingent on each member’s continued meaningful contribution to the project. If any team member significantly reduces their effort, becomes inactive, or fails to deliver agreed responsibilities, the remaining team members may vote to pause or terminate their vesting schedule.”

  • Decisions require a 2-out-of-3 majority vote.

  • The definition of "meaningful contribution" should be agreed in writing upfront (e.g., 5–10 hours per week, defined tasks, communication standards).

  • All changes must be documented and shared in writing.

   

Each team is formed from participants in the PM Accelerator Program, and typically includes:

• Product Managers – Responsible for business case development, voice of customer interviews, and market research

• Developers – Execute the technical build

• (Optional) Data Scientists & Designers – Added as needed, based on project complexity

👥 Team Size & Composition

• Typical team size: 5–10 members

• Larger-scope projects may be assigned bigger teams

• Teams with multiple PMs and developers tend to launch more ambitious, successful products

✅ Key Recommendations

• At least 2 product managers per team to divide user research, roadmap, and GTM work

• At least 2 developers for faster development and technical redundancy

• Data scientists and designers are optional based on your product goals

🚀 Cohort #9 Schedule Highlights (All Times in Pacific Standard Time) 

🔹 5.1 Group Team Match (Week 5)

During this phase, students will:

• Fill out a team match form detailing their background, skills, and interests

• Attend a Zoom team match call where PMs will pitch product ideas

• Teams will be formed based on mutual interest, project scope, and complementary skills

🔹 5.2 Early Developer Match 

For PMs who already have a clear product idea:

1. Post your idea in the #product-ideas channel (see examples from Cohort 1)

2. Visit the #pma-student-only channel to:

   • Access the developer contact list

   • View tech assessment results for over 600 developers

     • ✅ Green = approved

     • ❌ Pink = rejected

     • ⚪ White = pending review

3. Review tech assessments from the top 180 developers, then:

   • Cross-reference with the 600+ developer sheet for background and skills

   • Prioritize developers who are available immediately

   • Shortlist and interview multiple developers to evaluate skill, commitment, and fit

4. Message @marla_110323 on Discord to:

   • Get connected via email

   • Coordinate and schedule your own interviews

   • Share outcomes so Dr. Nancy can officially assign team members

🛠️ Feedback on Developer Pool

• ✅ Think a developer is a great fit for PMA? Let Marla know — we’ll redirect them to other teams.

• 🚫 Think they’re unqualified? Flag it to Marla — we’ll remove them from the pool entirely.

🎯 Main Deliverable: A Real-World AI Product

The core outcome of the AI PM Bootcamp is the successful launch of a real-life AI product that demonstrates actual user engagement.

✅ This means:

• Your product is functional and publicly accessible

• You’ve gathered real feedback or usage data from users

• You’ve applied key AI PM skills throughout the full product lifecycle

Participants who meet these criteria will receive an official certificate from PM Accelerator, recognizing their leadership and contribution to building and launching a real AI product.

This certification can be added to your resume, LinkedIn, and AI product portfolio.

This ensures your product is grounded in real user needs and is technically executable within the bootcamp timeline.

Yes. You can commercialize your product with your team as an AI entrepreneur or decide to join another company as an AI PM instead. You take full control of your product.

If you choose to continue working with our team after the 11-week bootcamp, we’re happy to help you commercialize your AI product.

🔧 This includes:

• Continued access to our engineering resources

• Advisory support from Dr. Nancy and the PMA team

• Guidance on go-to-market strategy, user acquisition, and fundraising

📄 In return, PMA will take 3–10% equity ownership, depending on:

• The level of ongoing technical support

• The degree of advisor involvement

💡 How Product Ideas Are Formed & Selected

During the team matching process:

• Product Managers (PMs) will bring ideas based on market research and voice of customer interviews

• Developers are also encouraged to pitch ideas—your input is welcome and valued

• Don’t worry if you don’t have an idea yet—there will be plenty of strong ideas from PMs to join and contribute to

🧠 Idea Validation Support

In Week 3, we’ll teach you how to apply the AI Hypothesis Framework to validate product ideas effectively.

You'll also receive ongoing support from:

• Our Tech Advisors and AI Product Advisors

• Weekly office hours to discuss technical feasibility, user problems, and go-to-market direction

By working collaboratively, your team will shape a validated, technically sound, and user-centered AI product.

All product management responsibilities will be handled by current PMA students who have been trained in both product and project management.

📌 There is no need for additional project managers unless explicitly specified by the program team.

This ensures efficient coordination, timeline tracking, and task management across all teams.

👥 Team Size & Project Scope

Team size will be determined by the complexity and scope of your project:

• Simple projects may require smaller teams with fewer roles

• Complex projects will involve more team members and broader responsibilities

Our goal is to ensure that each team has the right mix of skills and capacity to successfully launch and scale their AI product.

🚀 Continuing Your AI Project After Demo Day

If you'd like to keep building after the bootcamp, here are your options:

✅ Option 1: Continue With Your Current Developers

• Developer participation officially ends after Demo Day (last Friday of bootcamp)

• During the bootcamp, you own 100% of the product’s IP

• To continue with the same developers, you have two choices:

  1. Negotiate equity directly with your developers

  2. Have them sign a winter internship contract with PMA
     → This allows you to retain 100% IP ownership

📌 In both cases, you must discuss terms directly with the developers and gain mutual consent.

🔄 Option 2: Switch to New Developers

If your original team can’t continue:

• You can work with one of our new winter/spring interns

• You’ll continue to receive tech advisor support

• Since you're using company resources, PMA will take 3–10% equity in your startup

  • Percentage depends on the level of support you need (e.g., developer hours, GTM execution, tech advisory)

Product Managers (PMs) on each team are responsible for covering the software development costs related to their AI product (e.g., API fees, hosting).
In past cohorts, these costs were typically under $200 total during the bootcamp.

🤔 Why Doesn’t PMA Cover These Costs?

• PMs retain 100% equity and IP of their product (see FAQ Question 2)

• To maintain clean ownership, these costs must be managed independently

• This also gives PMs real-world experience managing P&L, just like they would in a real startup

Covering your own costs ensures your product is fully yours—no strings attached.

IMPORTANT : Before you schedule 1:1 resume review with my resume coach, please bring the list of tech stack from your developers to the live resume review.

✅If you are not PMA student and only attend AI PM bootcamp, you only qualify for one 60min 1:1 resume review

If we are currently in the middle of Cohort 5 and the next one is Cohort 6, new students can officially enroll in Cohort 6 and get early access to join Cohort 5 for free.

By joining Cohort 5 early, they can:

✅ Attend live trainings alongside current Cohort 5 students

✅ Watch recordings

✅ Access all resources that Cohort 5 students receive

✅ Even join an existing Cohort 5 team

📚 However, if they want to join a Cohort 5 team, they must reach out to the team lead directly with a message like this:

"Hi, I’m enrolled in the next cohort (Cohort 6), and I’d love to help out with your team in Cohort 5. I’m available to contribute approximately [X] hours per week. My main goal is to get hands-on experience and understand the process - not to take over any responsibilities from current Cohort 5 members. I’m happy to help with [insert your skills/areas of contribution], or support wherever the team needs an extra hand. I’ll do my best!"

The team lead will then decide if and how this student can support the project and must officially accept them.
